Leicester Tempest vs. De Montfort University 1

This Sunday saw Tempest play our last game of the season at the EMKA MGV. With a whole host of the East Midland’s best in action, it was bound to be a good one. We took to the court against sister club DMU’s first team. Friendly off the court and competitive on it, just the way we like it! On court for Tempest were:

Neil Robinson
Dan Hawthorne
Mel Kupaza
Sam Waller

And the second division:

Tom O’Callaghan (me – Captain)
Karl Sears
Charlotte Heffernan
Vik Whitemore

Ready and raring to go on the bench was Gem Morgan – back from a couple of months out injured.

It was tit-for-tat off the bat with both LCKC & DMU scoring in the few minutes. Sam opened the scoring for Leicester right away and it was tit-for-tat for the best part of the half. With about 20 minutes on the clock, DMU began to open up a small lead. Leicester were down by 2 or 3 at the half as Mel came off and Gem came on.

Dan & Neil made an incredible job of keeping DMU’s Alan & James at bay despite Neil struggling through a leg injury. Gem & Sam’s defence was looking strong too. On the other side Leicester were struggling to find the korf. Shots went up but didn’t drop. DMU’s defence was tight both ends and their attacks were looking great.

At the final whistle it was a well deserved 10:15 to DMU who still have a game in hand! That was nothing though, half of the team then hopped on court to play for LCKC 2 and won a 14:9 victory against Notts Magic 2 – proving how far both LCKC 2 & 3 have come this year AND how well DMU did to beat us!

Our scorers were:

Karl – 2
Charlotte – 1
Neil – 2
Dan – 3
Sam – 1

and a spare goal that remains unclaimed!

And that’s all she wrote. 2015/16 over and Tempest finish in the top half of the league with an unprecedented set of wins behind us. Huge thanks to everyone who has been on my team sheet this year, especially those who have gone above and beyond to make each and every game, to put in 110% at training and help coach & grow other players in the team.
